An Introduction to Who I Really Am:

Welcome readers! My name is Jessilyn, but my friends usually refer to me as Jess or JJ. I started writing songs when I was in the 6th Grade. I’ve been around music my whole life, but my true love of music didn’t start until after I joined the band in 6th grade. I remember that we had an assignment that required us to write our own musical piece. I had so much fun doing it that I decided to write lyrics to go with it. I eventually decided to sing the lyrics, and loved that even more. I had always loved to sing. But that one little project for band is what truly got me started.

I never really enjoyed school, though I must admit that without it, I wouldn’t be anywhere close to where I am today. Not to mention the fact that some of my friends have stood by me no matter what. They mean the world to me. They are my family. And many of those friends made up my first audience.

To me, writing songs isn’t about the fame or fortune. Would those things be nice? Well, yes, they would. But they aren’t important. If I get them, great. If I don’t get them, ok, whatever. My love of songwriting is about bringing people together. It’s about expressing myself. It’s about seeing people smile and sing along because they love music, not because they are simply a die-hard fan that refuses to be caught nearly worshipping any other artist. I want people to listen to my music and love it. But I also want them to spread their wings and explore the whole world of music.

So… some of you may be wondering what my genre is. The truth is, it’s pretty much one of those “a little here and a little there” kinds of things. I prefer to stick to country and pop, as well as some that are just “I don’t know what to call its.” Several of my songs are love songs in a way, but they still have that pop sound to them.
